Monschau is one of those places that let you travel back in time. It was even forget by it. In fact is one of the few places that remained untouched and did not suffer the massive destruction of the World Wars as several places in Germany were. It is a very enchanting little village, with typical architecture, easy to walk through and once denominated as «fairytale Monschau» by my german teacher. The surrounding forest and hills, the Ruhr river crossing over helps Monschau to keep the statute.
For those who like nature and hiking there are several trails for that purpose. I cannot share my experience because I didn’t try it, but definitely it would be a nice way of spend a warm sunny day.
And finally, don’t forget to visit the Glass Museum, witnessing the making of vases, plates, antique vessels, drinking glasses and other objects from red-hot glass stock. There are several daily on-site demonstrations and the owners are portuguese! 🙂
